Due to continuing problems of water ingress into a lift pit at a Debenhams store in Middlesborough Structuralwise were called upon to put together a specification for resolving the ongoing water ingress once and for all. The treatment for waterproofing the lift pit had to be robust as well as coming with a  guarantee against further water ingress into the lift pit area.

Once again injection waterproofing was utilised to seal the defective areas in the lift pit structure quickly and with minimum disruption.

We started by pumping out the oil contaminated water contained in the lift pit and disposed of it in the correct manner. Holes were then drilled into the structure and injection packers inserted to allow us to pump our waterproof gel into and behind the affected walls of the lift pit. This waterproofing process allowed us to create a robust waterproof membrane in and behind the structure allowing the lift pit walls at some point in the future to be drilled deep enough to install the lift fixings required without the risk of damaging our system which could have lead to further water ingress.

After the structure had been sealed a two coat waterproof slurry was applied to the surface of the concrete walls and floors which left the lift pit looking clean and tidy and free from water ingress.

The above pictures show the lift pit showing signs of water ingress prior to the waterproofing, the injection waterproofing taking place in the wall of the leaky lift pit and finally the finished lift pit with a waterproof slurry applied.
