At Timberwise we have a variety of systems available dependent on the type of construction of the property. Our most popular measure is a silicone injection cream called DriWise. Our trained technicians will correctly determine the height for the installation of the product taking into account the ground levels and the internal floor construction. Holes are then drilled into the mortar joints and the cream injected.
There are many different factors that can affect the cost of installing a damp proofing course – for example the size of the property, the thickness of the walls as this can affect the amount of damp proofing material needed. The best way to secure an accurate quotation is to arrange a survey of the property. This can be done by calling 0800 288 8660 or completing our on-line survey request form.
We would suggest that if the company who installed it is still trading that you should request them to re-inspect the property under the terms of their guarantee. If however they have ceased trading we would be more than happy to carry out a damp survey for you.
It is likley that the plaster contains ground salts from the rising damp (ground salts such as chlorides and nitrates). These ground salts are hygroscopic which means they can absorb moisture from the atmosphere. Therefore in areas where there is high humidity the dampness within the wall can continue. By removing the plaster and replastering with a salt retardent additive included any residual salts will be prevented from migrating into the plaster following the installation of the damp proof course.
The first risk is to the internal decoration of the property as it will damage wall coverings. More importantly though in can pose a possible health risk. The best advice is to have a survey to identify the type of dampness it could be rising damp, penetrating damp or condensation, and then act upon the advice given to rectify the problem.
Obviously we will attempt to minimise any disruption to you and your property whist carrying out damp treatments. Where possible we try and install damp courses from the outside but where this is not possible (for example due to ground level or access to walls) we would install the damp course from the inside. If our technicians are working inside the property they will always take care to look after floors and carpets.
Condensation can arise anywhere within the property as long as the right atmospheric conditions are available. Rising damp however is specifc tot he ground floor only of the property. It appears mainly on outside walls (although it can also affect interior walls). Rising damp can rise to approc 1m above the floor level. Condensation is often misdiagnosed by inexperienced surveyors as Rising damp in ground floor conditions. This is where a skilled and trained surveyor is required for an accurate diagnosis.

We would suggest that you do your homework as best you can when choosing a contractor. Firstly check out the finances of the company you are looking at also check to see that they have professional indemnity and product liability insurance as this is another safeguard. If a business suffers a large claim and they aren’t protected with insurance, they could be forced out of business, which would then affect every single client holding a guarantee provided by that business! If they are protected by appropriate insurances they should remain in business and be able to uphold the guarantees. Another way by which you can protect yourself, is by checking that the business you are looking at using offers GPI (Guarantee Protection Insurance), which protects you in the event of the contractor ceasing to trade.
Guarantees are supplied when work is paid for in full.
