Damp and Rising Damp in commercial properties

Timberwise are experts when it comes to surveying properties for different types of dampness. Damp can be caused for a number of reasons for example: Poor maintenance of the property, poor build quality, design defects within the property or general deterioration of the building fabric. If left untreated damp problems tend to get worse and may lead to other problems within the property such as Dry rot or Wet rot. The longer the period of time that the damp is left the more damage it will cause to internal decorations of the property causing unnecessary disruption to the occupants.

What is Rising Damp?

Put simply, Rising damp is water that enters the structure of the building through capillary action. The short video below from the Property Care Association (of which Timberwise is a member) explains in a little more detail what rising damp is.

Types of Damp proofing

There are 2 key ways  that Timberwise use to damp proof properties - Our damp proofing cream, DriWise and Electro Osmotic Damp proofing.

Timberwise DriWise damp proofing cream

This is a unique product to Timberwise, this water based product is injected into the walls and comes complete with a 20 year guarantee giving complete peace of mind. It is introduced along the mortar course at regular intervals by injection into pre-drilled holes. DriWise then diffuses before curing to form a continuous water-repellent barrier which prevents the dampness from rising up the wall. DriWise can be injected much faster than other liquid injection fluids. As it is not injected under pressure the risk of fluid leaking in to neighbouring properties and causing damage is almost eliminated. Following thorough testing in both laboratory and field scenarios DriWise has been approved by the BBA (British Board of Agrement). The BBA is an independent testing body that is a partner of the government. The Agrement Certificate for DriWise is 03/3991 and can be downloaded from our BBA Certificates downloads page.

Timberwise Electro Osmotic System (EOS) – Electro Osmotic Damp proofing

Electro osmotic damp proofing works by introducing a small electric current in to the wall at just above ground level via titanium anodes that are placed into the brickwork. As a result of the electric charge any rising moisture molecules are repelled back down the wall. The Electro Osmotic System is chemical free and can be used in properties of any age or structure.
