During a regular maintenance visit by a lift engineer at offices in Rathbone Street, London, water was identified as pooling in the bottom of the lift pit. The water was pumped out for the lift maintenance work to go ahead, only for it to reappear the following day. Due to the presence of the water in the lift pit the lift had to be temporarily put out of commission causing inconvenience for the property occupiers.
Structuralwise, as experts in dealing with flooded lift shaft pits, were asked to inspect the lift pit and put together a comprehensive specification for solving the problems associated with water ingress.
The main considerations were to install a system which would be effective, quick to install and with the minimum amount of disturbance within the lift pit and to the property occupiers, whilst offering superb value for money.

Due to the lift pit being constructed in concrete, with the water appearing to be entering through the joints and badly compacted areas of the concrete and due to the presents of the lift gear injection waterproofing was considered to be the most suitable option.
Injection waterproofing involves drilling holes into the concrete at pre determined centers, ensuring the we intercepted the construction joints and the defective areas of the concrete. After which injection packers were secured into the holes drilled and using our specialist injection pump a flexible resin was pumped through the packers into the joints and defective areas of concrete sealing them up and preventing water coming through.
A wall floor coving was then created to give additional protection. The end result – the lift pit is now free from water ingress and will be for many years to come.
