Tunnels & Bridges

How Chemical Injection can help with water ingress in tunnels & bridges

Tunnel construction is one of the most difficult engineering tasks in civil engineering. Concrete in tunnel construction must fulfil stringent demands in terms of strength, durability and impermeability to water.

Invariably joints are necessary and must, despite high loads, be able to ensure the structure is permanently watertight. Through time some of these joints may fail allowing unwanted water ingress in to the tunnel which can cause problems within the structure not to mention the unsightly after effects. One solution that can regain an invisible watertight seal would be to carry out structural waterproofing injection works to the affected areas.

Our system can be used on concrete, brick and metal structures

Our system can be used to

  • Seal the joints between segments or cracks in the structure to create a dry environment
  • Protect the concrete from harmful materials penetrating through cracks and voids
  • Protect the reinforcement steel against corrosion

In the event of the water ingress being under pressure we have a solution to temporarily hold back the water to allow us to inject a more permanent seal.

The special hydro structure resin that we use is a proven technology in retro sealing of voids, cracks and joints in structures, concrete segments or in-situ elements. The flexibility and swelling properties meet the highest demands in terms of penetration and permanent sealing requirements.

Timberwise are an approved MC Building Chemical installer, one of only a handful of specialists in the UK with this waterproofing technology and expertise. For more information on injection waterproofing or to arrange a survey call 0800 0199 213 or click here.
