Car Parks

How Chemical Injection can help with water ingress in car parks

Below ground or multi-storey car parks often suffer from water ingress either from any retained soil areas or from any upper areas that are exposed to the elements. Generally pooling water against the structure tends to find its way through any joints which haven’t been sealed correctly during its construction or that have worn through time or any cracks that have appeared within the structure. Water in car parks can damage cars from lime and empty ‘bays’ can become an expensive loss to the business.

This water ingress tends to bring certain problems with it, apart from the effects of the water ingress being unsightly and unpleasant when you have to step into it to get out of your car it can cause more serious problems to the vehicles parked beneath due to the possibility of the leaking water creating visible discolouration problems to the cars paint finish and to the structure itself, if any of the leaking moisture was to come into contact with any of the reinforcement bars which this is highly likely in a crack situation this moisture can allow the bars themselves to begin to rust and expand which would create further and more costly problems.

Cracks do develop in almost every building, despite careful planning and construction. Problems arise only if they are not repaired properly. Damp cracks and reinforcement corrosion are not only as mentioned earlier unsightly, defacing the visible parts of the structure; the structural integrity of entire buildings can be at risk. Choosing a structural injection solution from Structuralwise guarantees a successful and permanent repair.

For the sealing of cracks even when corrosion and expansion has begun is possible and when carried out correctly it can stop further problems. At Timberwise we can offer a highly elastic, cold flexible and fireproof resin seal. The environmentally friendly properties of these injection resins have been certified by external testing institutes.

If a more rigid bonding of crack is required we have a structural polymer resin combination that fulfills highest engineering standards.

Where a joint is present in a structure and it is not able to cope with constant movement in combination with in situ water pressure. In this instance we would recommend a polymer-reinforced hydro structure resin. Thanks to modern injection technology it is possible to repair even those joints that are not directly accessible. Our extremely elastic hybrid resin has excellent mechanical properties and counteracts pressuring water through isotropic expansion. This resin has also been awarded several environmental certificates.

If you need to waterproof large damp surfaces of structural components, but useful areas and superstructures are preventing access to the exterior surfaces? A method that has proven useful in such difficult cases is the subsequent waterproofing of the adjoining soil by placing an injection behind the structural component. A long-lasting, very low-viscosity hydro structure resin with a quick and highly controllable reactivity can be injected precisely into predefined areas – without any negative effect on the surrounding soil!
