Choosing A Surveyor

Five Rules When Picking A Remedial Surveyor

25 July 2016

Are they PCA Registered?

When choosing a Property Care Specialist, first on your agenda should be finding out if they are recommended by a reputable governing body. By choosing a surveyor who is part of the Property Care Association, you can rest assured that they have undergone rigorous checks to achieve and retain a membership.

Do they cover your area?

It may sound obvious but it’s seriously worth a second thought. Many surveyors will tell you that they cover your area, but your proximity to where they are located, may become an issue. To ensure you receive a punctual and reliable experience, make sure when choosing a surveyor, that their offices are located near you. At Timberwise, we strategically locate our surveyors across all geographical regions in England and Wales. No matter where you are, Timberwise are here to help.

What do their customers have to say?

Every remedial company in the country will express their professionalism and efficiency on the job. But, don’t just take their word for it. Review companies, such as Reviews.co.uk, Trademark, and Which? are good sites that express reliable customer reviews and opinions to make sure you’re getting your value for money.

Do they know their stuff?

If you do not know a lot about the issues you are experiencing it can be difficult to gauge if your surveyor has enough understanding and experience. At Timberwise, our surveyors undergo thorough training to gain either a recognised CSRT or CSSW qualification. A Certified Surveyor in Remedial Treatment (CSRT) will be efficient and know how to complete the job effectively as they have the knowledge and understanding that is required. The Certified Surveyor in Structural Waterproofing is a recognised qualification that means significant competency in waterproofing to a high level.

How long till I receive my report?

Some companies are known to take up to two weeks to produce a report.  This can often be problematic for customers, as household problems such as damp and wood rot can get increasingly worse over time. In addition, customers who require a pre-purchase survey are often time-bound due to the frustrations that come with moving into a new property.  Fortunately, at Timberwise we provide our customers with a full written report in just 3-5 working days, providing them with the time and breathability to make the important decisions.
