Get Rid of Condensation Once and For All
28 February 2017
Have you spotted damp walls, black spot mould or the build-up of water vapour on your ceiling? Well, first of all, you’re not alone. Damp problems are becoming an increasingly popular occurrence in modern properties across the UK for two main reasons;
- In order to keep as much heat in as possible, modern buildings are built ‘air-tight’. Whilst this may seem ideal when you’re snuggled up watching Disney films, in reality, you’re not allowing moisture-laden air to escape out of your property.
- We like it warm! It rains approximately 30% of the year in England so remembering to prop open the window isn’t exactly the first thing on our mind.
Fortunately, our surveyors have been helping the British public with damp proofing for over 40 years, we’ve been in and out of more properties than Phil Spencer, and know everything you can possibly know about damp and fungal decay. It’s true, us surveyors make for a blinding first date.
Now, the good news. You don’t have to be an expert in damp in order to live a life free from condensation, follow these tips from Timberwise and you can get rid of condensation once and for all.
More appliances, more problems! A kettle, coffee maker, iron, bath, shower, washing machine, dishwasher and a tumble-dryer. We're putting more and more appliances in our home, but are we allowing for more ventilation? No, so our tip is an obvious one: if it produces water remember to open a window or door to allow for adequate ventilation.
Crowded living areas prevent air from circulating, so try not overfill your rooms with lots of furniture. Also, try and keep your wardrobes, bookcases, cabinets a fair distance away from the walls to allow air to pass through.
Nobody wants to see unsightly black rings of mould in the bathroom. If you're struggling to maintain a sufficient level of ventilation in your home, then it might be time to consider a positive pressure unit extractor fan.
Naturally, we exert moisture from breathing but lest we forget, we're not the only ones. Our four legged friends produce an enormous amount of moisture each day, so be sure to open a window or door to allow for ventilation.
