Martin is a highly experienced timber defects surveyor with particular expertise in woodworm and beetle infestation, helping property owners identify, understand, and resolve timber pest issues affecting structural and decorative timbers. As a Surveyor for Timberwise, Martin specialises in diagnosing active and historic infestations caused by common wood-boring insects such as Common Furniture Beetle, Deathwatch Beetle, and other timber pests, ensuring the correct remedial approach is specified.
Martin began his career as an apprentice joiner, achieving City & Guilds qualifications in joinery, which gave him a strong practical understanding of timber construction and building structures. In 2011, he moved into surveying and joined Timberwise, where he achieved the Certificated Surveyor in Remedial Treatments (CSRT) qualification through the Property Care Association.
Through surveying thousands of properties, Martin has developed a detailed understanding of timber decay and insect infestation, including how moisture, ventilation, and building defects contribute to beetle activity. His practical background and analytical approach enable him to accurately distinguish between active infestations and historic damage, ensuring clients receive clear advice and effective, proportionate solutions.
Martin also holds the Certificated Surveyor in Structural Waterproofing (CSSW) qualification, giving him a broader understanding of moisture-related building problems that often contribute to timber deterioration.
Having consulted with over 15,000 customers, Martin brings extensive real-world experience and trusted expertise to every survey.
When not in the office you’ll likely find Martin on the golf course or watching football.
