It will come as no surprise that women are underrepresented within the construction sector.

As a male dominated industry it can be hard for women who are looking for their way into the construction industry to find their path into the job they want.

This is exactly why Timberwise are proud to announce our silver membership to Women into Construction.

Who are Women into Construction?

Women into Construction is an independent, not-for-profit organisation who aim to promote gender equality in construction.

Women into Construction ‘provide bespoke support to women wishing to work in the construction industry, and assist contractors to recruit highly motivated, trained women, helping to reduce skill gaps and create a more gender-equal work force.’

Working alongside educators, construction companies, contractors, and referral specialists, Women into Construction aim to ‘facilitate connections between women, the construction industry, training organisations, and referrers to create a more diverse workforce.’

Why Did Timberwise Join Women into Construction?

Timberwise are committed to the ideals of equality in the workplace, and we believe that the ethos, aims, and overall vision that Women into Construction hold align with the Timberwise core values.

Our Women into Construction membership means that we can create an environment that is not only more welcoming to women looking to start their career in construction, but one more equipped to support women already in the construction industry who are looking to develop their skills.

Recognising that the opportunities for women within the construction are not only limited, but often difficult to achieve, is only the first step in understanding the significance of our membership to Women into Construction, and we hope to lead the way in UK based property care companies when it comes to committing to a more equal industry.

Lousie Fitzpatrick, a contracts manager at Timberwise, was the first to suggest Timberwise pursue a membership to Women into Construction, and it was thanks to her work and outreach that the members of the senior management team recognised the opportunity for growth, and for Timberwise to contribute more towards equality in construction.

How Will Women into Construction Work with Timberwise?

Together, Timberwise and Women into Construction will work towards creating a working environment that is actively moving towards the goal of gender equality within the construction industry.

Women into Construction will be able to help Timberwise provide bespoke training opportunities, guidance, as well as extending work placement opportunities at Timberwise via their platform to women interested in entering the construction industry.

All of this comes together to create an enhanced way for Timberwise to offer more opportunities and experiences for women both in the construction industry, and women looking to enter the construction industry.

Mark Edwards, MD of Timberwise, had this to say: “Being a member of Women into Construction is an important step in making sure that Timberwise is doing all it can when it comes to offering opportunities to women looking to join the construction industry, and to helping those already in the construction industry to advance their skills.

I am thrilled that we can take this step with Women into Construction, it’s a point of pride that Timberwise can be associated with this organisation, and I am excited to explore the opportunities that Timberwise and Women into Construction can provide together.”
