Treatment for Damp Problems At Your Property in the South West

Where there is harsh rainfall mainland areas of the South West this is where dampness can occur in your property. There are 3 types of damp that can have an impact on your property and these are penetrating damp, rising damp and condensation.

Condensation is most common of all the damp issues and is affecting a number of properties in the South West area. The common cause of condensation is poor ventilation throughout the property. This type of damp can occur in both old and new buildings and should be treated as early as possible. The common signs that you may have condensation in your home is a damp musty smell, black spot mould and water droplets on windows and window sills.

Rising damp is less frequent from the damp problems, it usually occurs when the property does not have a damp proof course in place. There are a number of treatments for getting rid of rising damp from your property and at Timberwise we provide Electro Osmosis Damp Proofing, Dri Wise Injection and a Damp Proof Course.

Penetrating damp is caused by poor maintenance in the property such as blocked gutters or damaged rainwater goods. The signs that penetrating damp could be having an impact on your property are timber damage, black spot mould, watermarks on the walls. If penetrating damp is left untreated and is affecting timber then wet rot and dry rot could be an outcome of this.

Woodworm Problems in Your Property

Woodworm is another area of concern for property owners in the South West. Woodworm can occur when the timber is affected by dampness and can be difficult as they are only visible towards the end of their lifecycle. There are a number of different types of woodworm that can cause damage to your home in the South West. The most common of all the beetles is the common furniture beetle and the beetle that causes the most damage is the Death Watch Beetle.

At Timberwise, we always recommend you contact a qualified surveyor to carry out a full inspection at the property. This would allow the South West surveyor to correctly identify the woodworm beetle and provide effective treatment for that given wood boring insect.
