How is Condensation Formed?

Condensation is formed when there is a lack of adequate ventilation within the property. When warm, moist air comes into contact with cool air, or a cold surface, the warm air is unable to retain the moisture it contains as a gas, and that moisture is released in the form of condensation.

This is particularly visible on surfaces such as walls and windows, and this condensation can easily lead to further damp-related problems within the property.

When is Condensation Control Required?

Condensation is usually easy to notice, and even easier to spot when it forms on non-absorbent surfaces like windows or tiles. On more absorbent surfaces, however, it may go unnoticed until mould growth or damage to decorative finishes occurs. Mould growth is a property affliction that you will find easy to self-diagnose. The telltale black, blotchy fungus that crops up in areas of high humidity accompanied by the well known musty smell that accompanies black mould makes it very hard to ignore. How To Control Condensation Within a Property

One of the key factors for controlling condensation is the control of the humidity within the property. Adjusting the heating within the property and using a dehumidifier will assist in improving the condensation issue. Making these improvements will only ever provide a short-term solution to condensation. To get rid of condensation you need to identify the root cause of the problem as opposed to masking the problem.

There are a few simple treatments to help control condensation levels within properties:

Dry clothes outside whenever possible. Avoid drying clothes on radiators or rooms in the house where there is no ventilation. The moisture from the wet clothes has to go somewhere!
Improving the heat and general insulation within the property.
Preventing excess moisture in the air spreading (For example, shut the bathroom when showering and kitchen door when cooking).
Avoid if possible using portable or LPG gas heaters. These types of heater are the cause of many condensation problems in properties.
Using bleach and other such products to remove mould does not work as it does not kill the mould spores. Using a professional mould eradication kit will kill the mould spores for good. However, if the root cause of the condensation issue is not identified the mould will return.

These are the most popular solution to solve condensation issues as they are easy to install.
