Changing companies is a big decision, especially in a specialised field like property preservation. But for Forrest Hamilton, Chris Beckett, and Jack Cowan, making the move was about more than just a job change—it was about finding a team with a strong culture, clear direction, and real opportunities for growth.
Each of them came from different backgrounds, bringing years of expertise in surveying, site management, and business growth. But what they all have in common is a desire to be part of a company that puts its people first and is committed to raising the standard of property preservation in Scotland.
Our Journey Before Timberwise
Before joining, Forrest, Chris, and Jack had already built successful careers in the industry.
- Forrest transitioned from the leisure industry into property preservation, eventually managing a thriving preservation branch where he oversaw surveyors, technicians, and project delivery.
- Chris came from a construction and surveying background, working on large-scale waterproofing and structural repair projects and managing teams across Scotland.
- Jack started in construction at 16, progressing through site management roles before becoming a surveyor, where he quickly established himself as a top performer.
Each of them had different paths, but one thing was clear: they were looking for something more—a company that valued expertise, provided real support, and encouraged them to grow.
Why Make the Move?
So, why take the leap? For all three, company culture, investment in people, and opportunities to contribute to something meaningful were major selling points.
“The culture and investment in their people are leagues ahead of competitors. From training to equipment, they give back to employees in a way I hadn’t seen before.” – Forrest
“After years in corporate environments, I wanted to work for a company that values people over numbers. The opportunity to build something meaningful locally was too good to pass up.” – Chris
“The trust they place in you is huge. Instead of micro-managing, they bring in the right people and let them do what they do best. That was a big factor for me.” – Jack
For each of them, the opportunity to help build something bigger was also a major draw.
“When I joined, there were three surveyors. Now we’re a team of five and growing. Being part of that journey was a big part of my decision.” – Forrest
“I want to grow the Northern Branch into a key part of the business, expanding into Dundee, Aberdeen, and Inverness.” – Chris
First Impressions – Settling In
Starting at a new company can be daunting, but all three were struck by how welcoming and supportive the team was from day one.
“The professionalism and thoughtfulness stood out immediately. Every step was planned, and from day one, I knew I’d made the right decision.” – Chris
“Everyone is so supportive—nobody is left struggling on their own. If something goes wrong, the team pulls together to fix it.” – Forrest
“I had high expectations coming in, and they’ve been met. The way I’ve settled in and been given the opportunity to contribute has been exactly what I hoped for.” – Jack
Of course, there were challenges too – especially in business development and client relationships. But with a strong infrastructure and team support, they’ve all adapted quickly.
What’s Different?
Having worked in the industry for years, each of them has a clear perspective on what makes this role stand out.
“Night and day compared to my previous company. This is preservation done right – customer-first, backed by a team that genuinely cares.” – Forrest
“There’s a real sense of purpose here. It’s about what we can do together to grow, not just what the company can get from you.” – Chris
“It’s a breath of fresh air. The trust and freedom I’ve been given to develop my role have allowed me to grow so much in a short time.” – Jack
For all three, the people and culture are what make the job fulfilling.
“The team makes the job. Like-minded people, all working toward the same goal, make every day enjoyable.” – Jack
Looking Ahead – The Future of Property Preservation
The future looks bright, and Forrest, Chris, and Jack are excited to be part of shaping it.
- Forrest is focused on developing services in his home county of Fife and gaining further qualifications in waterproofing.
- Chris has ambitious plans to expand the Northern Branch, growing a team of surveyors and technicians across Dundee, Aberdeen, and Inverness.
- Jack is aiming to become the highest-selling trainee surveyor this year while continuing his professional development.
“Growth is what excites me most. While others are standing still, we’re moving forward.” – Forrest
“There’s massive potential here. With smart planning and the right people, we can become the go-to name in Scotland.” – Chris
“High standards and great customer care will always set us apart—people will always invest in companies they trust.” – Jack
Final Thoughts – Why This Move Was the Right One
For all three, the decision to make the change has been a career-defining move.
“Better than I could have hoped for. The right skills, the right tools, and a team that supports you—everything you need to succeed.” – Forrest
“Don’t think twice, just do it! If you want to be valued and grow, this is the place to be.” – Chris
“You’re joining a company that does things right, values its employees, and gives you every opportunity to succeed.” – Jack
A final thanks to all the colleagues who have helped them settle in: Stuart McGinlay, Steven Buick, Forrest Hamilton, Sharon Murray, Laura Ross, Kerri McFadden, Barrie, George, and the whole team.
With a strong team, a growing reputation, and a clear vision for the future, this is just the beginning for Timberwise in Scotland!
